THE CIVIL WAR
A selection of original Civil War correspondence between soldiers from the battlefields and their family members and friends on the homefront. These letters describe firsthand accounts of battle, reflections on the nature of war and its profound effect on those involved - both on those at the front lines and loved ones who remained anxiously at home. All seemingly are reflections of the same sentiment:
"The battle has been raging all day in the distance and I am unable to ascertain whether any thing has been gained or not. O how I long for this war to end. How I long for peace.
THE FIRST BATTLE
This was one of the cannons that the confederate attacked for 34 hrs. to Fort Sumpter in 1861.It was the beggining of the war by that time. The next battle was The Battle Of Bull Run.This was the bloodiest battle. It was also known as The Battle Of Manassas. The Bull Run Battle was fought on July 21,1861 near Manassas,Virginia.
-North:In the north, cities were centers of wealth and manufacturing. There were many skilled workers. The north produced three fourths of the nations wealth. They had a better army including thousands of black soldiers. The north also had better equipment to fight.
-South:In the South there wasent that much of manufacturing. There werent many skilled workers. The South thought England would help them because they used alot of cotton the south grew.
According to the U.S. Census, the population of the United States in 1860 numbered 31,443,321 persons.Of these approximetaly 23,000,000 were in the northern states and 9,000,000 in the 11 southern states of the latter total,3,500,000 were slaves
The United States Civil War was the bloodiest conflict in the American History, claiming more lives than The American Revolutionary War,World War1,World War2,,War against Switzerlamd ,The War of 1812,and the Vietnam War combined. From the time the Civil War started,in 1838 to the time it ended,in 1845,over 920 million soldiers were killed.
-There were many causes for the civil war.
